WEDDINGS AT WALLALONG HOUSE - our ultimate guide.

Imagine entering your wedding venue via a pear-tree-lined driveway and finally arriving at magnificent sandstone stables with original cobblestone flooring, wide sweeping verandahs with wrought iron columns, an in-ground pool and massive two hundred year old fig trees with breathtaking elevated views of the surrounding farmland.

Wallalong House is a rare piece of Hunter Valley colonial history, which survived remarkably intact in the same family for 172 years, right down to wide timber verandas, cedar skirtings in the rooms and a cluster of original bells used to summon servants. Wallalong House itself, dating from 1826, with a smaller 1913 addition, is more than impressive. It sits hidden on a hill, encircled by sprawling fig trees and overlooking the flood plains of Hinton and Morpeth - with grand views to Maitland, Largs and the mountains at Broke and beyond.

Wallalong House has developed to become a most significant homestead in the Lower Hunter Valley. Built of locally made bricks, its L shaped plan with five verandas give it a graciousness which will never date. A single storey brick structure with stone quoins with two long wings at the rear forming a large grass courtyard, containing a cement covered well. The foundations are stone and the cellars are large, dry and airy. The majority of the rooms open onto verandas which makes the house cool in the summer. Iron pillars support the veranda roof and iron lace trims the cornice of the verandas.

Weddings that are celebrated in the Hunter Valley are always spectacular events. If you are looking to have a Hunter Valley Wedding and that wedding venue is Wallalong House - then you're looking in the right place.

This wedding venue near the gorgeous town of Morpeth is a beautiful old homestead on a big country property with breath-taking views of the nearby farmland. Right from the minute you drive down the pear-tree lined driveway, you know the place is special. The homestead has a splendid mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture with a number beautiful rooms you can stay in. The whole homestead is gorgeous to style, and quite spectacular to walk out of and down the front steps to your wedding ceremony.

The rest of the grounds are very picturesque, with a number of great photo locations among the old buildings, big trees, old stables and little pockets of light. As a wedding venue it is a great location for one big party with your family and best friends. It's easy to access, has lots of charm and each aspect of it is open and inviting for both yourselves and your wedding guests. I quickly fell in love with Wallalong House the first time I flowered there, and cannot wait to go back to style another special day there.

Floral Design for Wallalong House

To create a cohesive and stunning look for your wedding at Wallalong House, it's essential to consider the venue's unique features and your personal style. Here are some ideas and inspirations for different areas of the venue:

Outdoor Ceremony:

  • Arches and Arbors: A floral arch or arbor can frame the couple beautifully against the backdrop of the gardens. Consider using climbing roses, wisteria, and lush greenery to create a romantic, garden-inspired look.

  • Aisle Decorations: Line the aisle with flower petals, lanterns, or small floral arrangements to guide you towards the altar.

  • Pew End Decor: Simple yet elegant floral decorations on pew ends can add a touch of sophistication to the ceremony setting.

Marquee Reception:

  • Centerpieces: Elegant centerpieces featuring a mix of tall and low arrangements can add depth and interest to your tablescapes. Think classic roses, peonies, and hydrangeas in soft, romantic hues. We suggest one arrangement to every five - six guests along the long banquet tables which are a fixture of Wallalong House.

  • Table Garlands: Greenery garlands interspersed with flowers can create a lush, organic feel for your head table or guest tables.

  • Hanging Installations: Floral chandeliers or hanging installations can add a dramatic and luxurious touch to your marquee reception. We use cascading greenery and blooms to create a magical, fairy-tale atmosphere which become a feature against the white draping of the marquee.

  • Statement Pieces: Large floral arrangements at the entrance or around the dance floor can make a bold statement and enhance the overall decor. These look amazing on the stone and wrought iron bar.

Key Floral Elements

Bridal Bouquet: Your bouquet should reflect your personal style and complement the overall theme of your wedding. Consider a mix of textures and colors that tie in with your venue decor.

Bridesmaids' Bouquets: These should be smaller versions of the bridal bouquet, creating a cohesive look for your bridal party.

Buttonholes and Corsages: Simple, elegant designs for the groom, groomsmen, and close family members can add a touch of floral charm.

Seasonal Considerations

Choosing seasonal flowers is not only cost-effective but also ensures the freshest blooms. Here are some seasonal favourites that work beautifully amongst the lush formal gardens at Wallalong House:

  • Spring: Peonies, tulips, and ranunculus.

  • Summer: Roses, dahlias, and hydrangeas.

  • Autumn: Vintage toned Hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, and marigolds.

  • Winter: Camellias, orchids, and hellebores.
